Why doing nothing means you get sued

Not wanting to be sued, some businesses will decide not to deal with their errant employees. They fail to set the boundaries and that's when things get out of hand. The employee takes more liberties, the employer gets more frustrated, and then one day the employer snaps: the employee is dismissed with no process followed and the employer ends up being sued (and losing).

This could all have been avoided if the employer had taken action earlier and followed the rules.

1. Look at the alternatives: chances are that at some stage you will have to deal with an errant employee. Even if it doesn't amount to a dismissal situation you may have to give a warning or get the employee back on track. As soon as I received the Manual I read it from cover to cover. It immediately came in handy as I had an employee who went AWOL just before Christmas. This type of behaviour from the employee in question had started to become a pattern previously.
